Rotorua Cemetery - Proposal to change purpose of reserve
Council seeking feedback on Rotorua Cemetery change of purpose proposal
Pursuant to Section 24A of the Reserves Act 1977, Rotorua Lakes Council is proposing to change the purpose of part of the Rotorua Cemetery Reserve from Local Purpose (Cemetery) Reserve to Local Purpose (Community Housing) Reserve.
Legal Description: Section 1 Survey Office Plan 585263
Area: 3.19 hectares more or less
This land was originally gifted by Ngāti Whakaue for Cemetery Purposes. Due to the northern part of the reserve not being used for that purpose, the long term intention is to return this land to Pukeroa Ōruawhata Trust as per the Ngāti Whakaue Gifted Reserves Protocol Agreement. Council’s proposal to change the purpose of the reserve will enable a lease to be granted to Pukeroa Ōruawhata Trust in the interim to develop housing on the land which is the aspiration of Ngāti Whakaue.
Council invites written submissions from people claiming to be affected by the proposed change of purpose. Submissions must be received by 8 August 2023 and can be submitted through
- Council’s website rotorualakescouncil.nz/cemeteryreservechange; or
- Post to Rotorua Lakes Council, Private Bag 3029, Rotorua Mail Centre 3046.
Rotorua Lakes Council is the operating name of Rotorua District Council.
