How infringements are processed

A parking enforcement officer will issue an infringement notice when the user of a motor vehicle has committed an offence.

A ticket is legally served when it is:
  • Placed under the vehicle's windscreen wiper
  • Handed to the driver
  • Posted to the last known registered address.

If you pay the infringement fee within 28 days of the notice's issue, Council will not take further action.

Ways to pay a parking fine

Pay online via i-Park

Parking infringement payments are processed via the i-Park website. Using the i-Park site means you adhere to the i-Park website terms and conditions (i-park.co.nz).

Pay or dispute an infringement via the i-Park website (i-park.co.nz)

Pay in person

Pay in person using cash, EFTPOS or credit card at Rotorua Lakes Council, 1061 Haupapa Street, Rotorua. You will need the infringement notice number or the registration number of the vehicle.

Pay via online banking

You will need to provide the bank with the Infringement Notice number or Parking Ticket number. The bank will have all the other required details.

To set up Rotorua Lakes Council for your Bill payment:

  1. Log on to your internet banking.
  2. Select your Bill Payment function.
  3. Under registered payees search 'Rotorua Lakes Council', then select the parking fine payee account as your Bill Payee. You do not need the bank account number.
  4. Follow the prompts. (Please ensure you enter the Parking Ticket Number in the required field).

If you experience difficulty paying online contact your bank's customer service number.

Disputing an infringement

There are two ways to lodge a dispute to deny or explain an offence, within the first 28 days. You may choose to have the matter heard in Court.

Online

The easiest way is online via the dispute form on the i-Park website below.

  • Click "Dispute"
  • You will need the ticket number and vehicle registration
  • If your explanation is not accepted, you will receive a response at the email address provided in the dispute. You can also view the response online by navigating to "Check My Ticket Status," entering your ticket details, and selecting "Appeal History."

At the Civic Centre

If you have trouble accessing the online form, you can collect and submit a paper dispute form at our Customer Centre, 1061 Haupapa Street, Rotorua.

Timeframes

  • If the matter isn't settled in some way within 28 days, a reminder notice will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.
  • If the matter is not resolved within 56 days, it will either be handed over to Baycorp for collection or lodged with the court as an unpaid infringement fee. Additional costs will be added to the original fine. Once escalated to this stage, the infringement can no longer be disputed with the issuing authority.
