Water Disconnections
For all water disconnections, you will need to complete and submit a Request for Service Disconnection form to Council. There is no administration fee for this service.
This includes the disconnection of all or any service no longer required due to:
- Demolition or removal of a building
- Subdivision or redevelopment
- Temporary disconnections.
How to apply
- Submit the completed Request for Service Disconnection form above to Council
- Council will process the request within five days of receipt
- You will receive an approval notice together with any supporting documentation that may be required
- You are then able to arrange the work directly with the Council-approved contractor
- Capped ends are to be inspected by a Rotorua Lakes Council Compliance Engineer.
Types of disconnections
Permanent disconnections
Where the service is fully removed and disconnected at the water main. Only Council-approved contractors with water level W1 are permitted to carry out permanent disconnections.
Temporary disconnections
Where the service is plugged at the property boundary. This may be carried out by a registered plumber to the downstream point of supply at the existing manifold/toby. Temporary disconnections are only permitted if the connection is to be reused within a year.
Paying for a service disconnection
Once your service disconnection request is processed, we will send you the necessary documentation to get a quote. All Council-approved contractors with water level 1 are permitted to carry out permanent disconnections at the water main.
You can then arrange payment and work directly with the contractor.
