Accredited Water Testing

The Rotorua Lakes Council Environmental Laboratory samples and tests:

  • Potable water (drinking water)
  • Non-potable water, such as stormwater and other environmental waters
  • Wastewater, trade waste and effluents.

The lab is located at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, 60F Te Ngae Road, Rotorua.

IANZ-accredited laboratory

Our laboratory is IANZ accredited, which means we can test and confirm whether your water is considered ‘potable’ and complies with the NZ Drinking Water Standards.

Our IANZ accreditation is to NZS/ISO/IES 17025, confirming our laboratory meets international standards of technical competence, reliability and quality management.

Internal audits

Internal audits of targeted areas are carried out monthly, and the laboratory participates in regular inter-laboratory comparison programme (ILCP) testing rounds. These ILCP results help ensure continued proficiency in chemical, physical and microbiological testing performed at the lab.

What we test

The laboratory conducts sampling and analysis for the Rotorua Lakes Council reticulated water supply, as well as private clients, rural schools, engineering consultants, environmental monitoring programs, resource consent monitoring and research projects.

We offer a range of chemical and microbiological analyses suitable for drinking water, stormwater discharges, surface water, groundwater, trade waste, effluent and wastewater. We can also provide metals and organics analysis.
