Subject: LGOIMA request - dog pound numbers
I refer to your LGOIMA request of 12 July 2022 regarding dog pound numbers, and provide the following information as per your email:
The number of dogs taken into custody by the council for this year to date and each of the three previous years.
The number of these dogs which were reunited with their owners, or euthanized, or went on to other new owners or remain in council custody.
Below are details for each of the last three calendar years on the total number of dogs impounded, and what happened to these dogs.

Of the number of dogs remaining in council custody, please include what date the dog which has been with the council the longest was seized. Please include where this dog was picked up from, why, and what breed it is.
The dog that has been at the pound the longest was collected roaming on Fenton Street on 9 February 2022 and is being held for rehoming. The dog is a female Staffordshire Cross.
The costs (daily or weekly if possible) to keep a dog alive at the pound, the cost of euthanasia, and general running costs of the pound.
The costs for running the pound are included in the overall operating expenditure for the Animal Control function. Council does not capture the level of detail requested and therefore declines to provide the information in this detail as per section 17(e) ‘that the information requested does not exist’.
For your information, below is the overall operating expenditure for the Animal Control function for the last four financial years, along with the individual charges for pound fees and euthanasia:

$15.00 per day pound fees for the care and feeding of each animal which includes food, cleaning and staff costs
$22.00 per dog for euthanasia as charged by the vet
$39.50 per dog if a dog requires sedation prior to euthanasia (plus the euthanasia fee)
