Subject: Official Information request - towed vehicles
I refer to your online Official Information request of 9 June 2022 regarding the number of vehicles towed over the past five years, the three roads or streets where most vehicles were towed from, and the reasons why vehicles were towed.
2017 – 22 cars
2018 – 47 cars
2019 – 33 cars
2020 – 33 cars
2021 – 2 cars
2022 – 4 cars
The three areas/streets where the most vehicles were towed from are Sulphur Point, Fenton Street and Haupapa Street.
The reasons for cars being towed is that they have been on-site and not moved for a period of time. When this is brought to Council’s attention RLC attempt to contact the owner by sending a letter to the registered owner’s address and leaving a ‘notice to tow’ on the vehicle. If the owner does not respond or remove the vehicle by a stated date, the vehicle is towed.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. The Ombudsman’s Office can be contacted by calling 0800 802 602, emailing info@ombudsman.parliament.nz, online at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz, or by post to The Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.
