Subject: Official Information request - Hemo Gorge sculpture costs
I refer to your online Official Information request regarding past, present and any confirmed costs on the Hemo Gorge sculpture that ratepayers will have to occur over the life expectancy of the sculpture, and provide the following:
- Rotorua Lakes Council’s contribution to the construction of the sculpture was $388,000.
- Annual maintenance cost is a wash down and inspection. In 2021 this cost was $2,000.
- A repaint is budgeted for every seven years, estimated at $30,000. This cost is funded through the Public Arts budget. (Note: This is not the same process as being undertaken at the moment which was caused by a paint system failure. There is no cost to Council for the work currently underway).
- The life expectancy of the sculpture is a minimum of 50 years.
