Subject: TRIM: LGOIMA request - freedom camping fines
I refer to your email of 20 September 2018 under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act regarding freedom camping fines, and respond below as per your email:
Broken down by the 2016, 2017 and 2018 financial years:
- The number of fines for freedom camping issued
- The number of fines paid and their value
- The number not paid and their value
- The number waived and the reasons behind that
- The number being processed through the courts for non-payment and their value
- How much is a fine for freedom camping?
In 2011 Council debated whether to promulgate a Bylaw for freedom camping and decided not to take this course of action. The answers to all your questions is therefore NIL as Council does not have a Bylaw under which to prosecute freedom campers.
