Subject: Official Information request - potholes
I refer to your online Official Information request regarding the number of potholes repaired over the past five years (1 January 2016 to 31 December 2020) and respond below as per your request:
The number of potholes broken down by year, and split into city and rural(by area)
See attached spreadsheet (PDF). The 'Summary' tab (PDF, page 2) summaries the number of pothole repairs in the Urban and Rural areas. The 'Data' tab provides more information including the location of the pothole.
The number of potholes reported but not fixed over the five-year period, broken down by year, and split into city and rural (by area)
All reported potholes were fixed. Some reported potholes have the status of "No Action Required" - refer to the notes in the Data tab for reasons for this status.
Please provide the total cost of repairs.
Pothole repairs are covered under a lump sum payment for the contract which includes other works (pothole repairs, detritus sweeping, grate clearance, minor drainage maintenance, bridge inspections, detritus removal on cycleways and footpaths). Separate data on potholes cannot be extracted.
Questions:
Are council contractors paid to repair the potholes?
Yes the repair of potholes is undertaken via a contract with the contractor.
Can you provide an outline of costs for a typical pothole repair - such as staff costs, equipment, materials, etc.
As noted above, pothole repair is covered under a lump sum payment which includes other works and separate data on potholes cannot be extracted.
