Subject: LGOIMA - Te Ahi Tupua / the Hemo sculpture
I refer to your Official Information request of 15 October regarding Te Ahi Tupua / the Hemo sculpture.
Has it been fitted correctly yet?
Installation by Kilwell is still to be completed.
Have there been new challenges since the last update just under a month ago?
The challenge remains finalising of the installation, which RLC is working on with Gurit Engineers and Kilwell.
Has the sculpture had to be damaged or altered in order to get it into position?
Installation of the inner onto the base plinth required the temporary removal of several small section of the inner tube which are being replaced as part of the installation work that is underway.
How much longer does the council expect the fitting to take?
RLC is working on finalising installation with Kilwell.
When is the opening and blessing been scheduled for?
No date has been set.
Has there been any additional cost as a result of the challenges in installing the sculpture?
Council has incurred no additional costs, total cost is $388K. Kilwell is responsible for installation of the sculpture, including the costs of this.

Please see below responses to your questions.
Unfortunately, one question in the LGOIMA has fallen off that list - "Can the council please also provide the updated figure of what the council has spent on the sculpture to date?" That's the updated, overall figure, not just the cost of the installation.
Council's approved total contribution remains $388,000. There has been no change to this.
Could you please also clarify if the sculpture has been further altered/damaged in the course of installation? We already had it confirmed that there was "temporary removal of several small sections of the inner tube" from shortly after the sculpture was transferred (which you may be aware we reported) but has anything further happened to it since installation began?
Nothing further has occurred.
If the council does not have a date set for opening, is there a rough timeframe the council, Kilwell and Gurit are working toward?
Not at this time.
