Official Information Request - 9 January 2019
Sent: Tuesday, 19 February 2019 2:11 p.m.
Subject: LGOIMA request - land adjacent to Ohau channel
I refer to your LGOIMA request of 9 January 2019 to Bay of Plenty Regional Council, part of which was subsequently transferred to Rotorua Lakes Council (specifically Nos.1, 2, 3, 5).
1. What mitigation steps to the Ohau Channel have been taken with regard to the multi-vehicle washing which happens regularly on this piece of land?
Until receipt of this LGOIMA, Rotorua Lakes Council was not aware of the alleged regular multi-vehicle washing activities occurring at this location. We are also not aware of any subsequent mitigations to the Ohau Channel. However discharge to water bodies is a Regional Council function and any enquiries regarding any discharges should be referred to Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
2. Where is the run off from the hard standing going?
When last inspected by this Council on 23 October 2014, the stormwater grate in the hard stand area appeared to drain directly into the Ohau Channel. As noted above, discharge to water bodies is a Regional Council function.
3. What mitigation steps have been taken with regard to the commercial collection of waste oil, and the storage of drums in such close proximity to the waterway/ land vested to the Regional Council.
When Council last dealt with the issue of the use, storage and disposal of Hazardous Goods at this property on 24 October 2017, a hazardous goods consultant was tasked with working with the property owners to ensure that all applicable HSNO and Regional Council requirements were met.
5. What mitigation steps have been taken so the dog, permanently tied up and kennelled on Council land, does not disturb native wildlife on the river bank, and does not bark frequently without any action being taken.
The kennel is not located on Council land. The dog is secured to the kennel and cannot access the river bank.
