Subject: LGOIMA - keeping of pigs in a residential zone
I acknowledge your email of 5 March 2019 and respond below:
- Have the owners of 20 Westbrook Place been given permission to keep pigs in a residential zone by RLC?Permission was not given to keep the pigs. There is currently an exit plan for the pigs and once the last two pigs have been removed no further pigs will be kept at the address.
- How long have RLC known that pigs are being kept at this address?Since 16 November 2018
- If permission has been granted, under what circumstances has this been granted?Steps have been put in place to minimise any nuisance problems. The pigs are not to be contained in a small area and they are fed on a concrete paid which is cleaned after feeding. Once all the pigs have been removed the area where the pigs have been contained will be regrassed. If any valid complaints are received from neighbours the remaining pigs will be removed.
- What monitoring will take place to ensure that conditions are met long term?Random inspections will be carried out by staff and the pig owner is pro-actively keeping Council informed of any issues.
