Subject: TRIM: LGOIMA request - Museum repairs
I refer to your email of 4 April 2019 under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act requesting information on the Museum repairs, and reply below as per the questions in your email:
a) Having been informed twice that any insurance payout will be "communicated at the appropriate time", when can we expect this "appropriate time" to be, given it is now nearly 2 years since the Kaikoura earthquake, the event that precipitated the extensive museum inspection?
Council's insurance claims are still active and being finalised. It is not known when these will be completed, however any final claims and payments will be publically communicated at the appropriate time.
It is important to note that any insurance payout would only cover the cost of reinstating damage and not additional work required to bring the building up to current building code.
b) Has there been a public tender process for contractors to undertake the museum upgrade?
Not yet. We have five expressions of interest (EOI) which were called for earlier. We will be calling for tenders in the next couple of months from the EOI list.
c) Has a 'critical path' been included in any submission to tender?
The work has not been tendered yet, but there is an estimated build timeframe of 100 weeks.
d) Have contractors been appointed?
We have various consultants/engineers engaged but no construction contractor has been appointed as per question (b).
e) Has a date for work to commence been determined? If not, why is the scaffolding going up in July?
Enabling works are expected in start in July with asbestos removal which is essential for health and safety reasons, then partial scaffolding and wrapping for roof access and to examine and inspect roof structures.
