Subject: Information request - climate crisis information
I refer to your email dated 26 November 2019 enquiring as to what RLC is doing to address the climate crisis.
A commitment to climate change resilience and adaptation is a focus of the Council' 2030 vision - refer to page 26 of the Pre-Election Report available on Council's website - https://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/our-council/news/Pages/default.aspx?newsItem=8326.
Council has completed a carbon footprint at a corporate Council and wider community level. A copy of this is available on the Council's website - https://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/Rotorua2030/portfolios/sustainableliving/Pages/default.aspx - under Related links.
This report is informing development of a draft Climate Change Action Plan. Once the draft Action Plan has been completed it will be presented to Council for approval to go out public consultation. It is expected this will be within the first six months of 2020.
I hope this above assures you that Council is committed to acting on climate change.
