Offficial Information Request - 14 May 2019 (Cycleway)
When constructing public infrastructure Local Authorities try to balance a range of considerations including sound engineering, safety risk, community amenity values, property owner rights and overall costs. In many cases there is tension between these considerations and supplementary actions are designed to reinforce some areas where engineering constraints do not permit full safety separation between different types of transport.
A supplementary action that reinforces road safety is found in a variety of road safety education programmes. One such resource comes from our shared path education toolbox. This link is to the flyer information around the differences between courtesy and pedestrian crossings that goes out via different media channels throughout the year.
The shared path education campaign is on-going and targets our various user groups to help them better understand right of way and recognise (via the red paint markings) the locations on our network where all users need to slow down and take extra care.
There is also some educational signage going up on the Ranolf shared path at this intersection (and at other identified locations) to explain to shared path users that they do not have right of way and need to check carefully prior to entering the road corridor. (Timeline for this is the next two weeks).
