Subject: TRIM: Footpath accessibility in Mamaku
I refer to your information request of 14 December 2018 regarding Council's plans to ensure accessibility eg: footpaths, in the village of Mamaku as per the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2008.
Council constructs all footpaths, including those in Mamaku, to standards that meet access criteria for all users. In addition Council has regular meetings with CCS Disability Action to ensure disability issues are incorporated into new projects and any existing issues are raised and managed appropriately.

Subject: TRIM: LGOIMA - footpath accessibility in Mamaku
Further to your follow-up email of 18 December 2018 regarding plans for installing footpaths in Mamaku, I attach a copy of the Mamaku Development Plan which was prepared by Council and the Mamaku community a number of years ago, and which you have been provided a copy of in the past.
The Mamaku Plan incorporates the desire to upgrade some roads and footpaths as funding resources permitted, and includes:
a) A carriageway design based on the road hierarchy with traffic calming on the local roads. Note that on the plan some paper roads were never going to be constructed and some were not planned to be through roads for effective traffic management.
b) The location of footpaths with crossing points when these would be constructed.
c) The provision for car parking where such demand exists eg adjacent to school, sports facilities etc.
d) The gradual stormwater reticulation where necessary and in accordance with the comprehensive consent for the Mamaku village.
e) The landscaping as necessary e.g. street trees.
At this stage there is no funding allocated in the Long-term Plan, however Council will continue to work towards this long term Development Plan when funding resources permit.
As per the Act, we are obliged to advise that you may contact the Ombudsman at the address below if you have any concerns with the response provided by Council, by writing to:
