Topic: ASB's latest regional economic scorecard
Enquiry
Reporter seeking comment on a story about the recently released ASB regional economic scorecard for which we had referred her to RotoruaNZ wondered if in case she was unable to make contact the council could provide some comment, noting that Tauranga City Council, for example, had provided some commentary on building consent trends.
Response
We provided the following information:
Unfortunately, the person from RLC who might have been able to provide some comment is not here today.
However, there was a recent report to the Community and District Development Committee on housing development data for the district for the past 12 months where it was noted that Rotorua had had a new high in dwellings delivered for the 12 months with a solid pipeline of building consents.
You’ll find that info on pages 12 to 19 of the C&DD Committee agenda from 4 December: Agenda of Community and District Development Committee Meeting - Wednesday, 4 December 2024
Below is an extract from our website wrap of that meeting and here is the link that will take you directly to that part of the meeting recording if you want to have a listen (it’s not too long): https://youtu.be/IulUQYuJD9M?t=3559
Quarterly Housing Data Update
Destination Development Group Manager Jean-Paul Gaston provided an overview of housing development data up to October 2024.
Highlights include:
- A new 12 month high on new dwelling consents for the district, with 507 builds for the 12 months ending 31 October (gross). This represents the third year of consecutive record builds.
- Data is indicating stronger build numbers in the eastern and western areas of Rotorua.
- Rotorua continues to buck the national trend with a solid pipeline of houses to be built.
- Approximately 840 dwellings in the building pipeline (in the consenting process as at Oct 2024).
