Enquiry
*Note: this is a follow-up to yesterday’s media enquiry.
I am just emailing to let you know I am writing an article on a bore that broke in Kaingaroa Forest Village due to deterioration on Sunday evening - leaving the village without drinking water or water in the main lines for flushing toilets or showering until Friday 19 July. We are aware that this is a private water source and may only concern the Kaingaroa Forest Village Council Incorporated, but we wanted to put it to BOPRC and Lakes Council in case there is a comment you want to make in the article.
A councillor on Kaingaroa Forest Village Council Inc said the bore was 40 years old and the original bore was designed to serve half the population of the village.
A resident has emailed The Post and said they weren't given adequate warning with their young families and dependent elders to organise time off work to collect drinking water for their homes until Friday.
Elderly and young children in homes with no access to running water have to drive to the town's ablution block for the rest of the week.
I do have one question I hope to ask which is
Who owns the bore and/or has responsibility for maintaining it?
Response
We spoke with the reporter by phone and informed her it was not a council bore, reiterating that the water supply in the village is a private water supply and she would need to speak with the village council about this matter.
