Topic: MHUD consent applications for motels contracted for emergency housing
Enquiry
I am just wondering if MHUD has applied for the resource consent extension yet for the seven contracted motels in Rotorua? If so, are we able to get a copy of the application sent please?
Also, can the council please advise what the process is now?
Do locals get to make submissions like last time?
What's the time frame? Has a hearing date been set?
Will independent commissioners be appointed again? Will they be the same people?
Will there be another social impact report done like last time? If so, who will be doing it and how?
Apologies if some of these questions can't be answered by the council but I'll start with you!
Response
From Group Manager Community and District Development – Jean Paul Gaston:
MHUD submitted seven applications for Contracted Emergency Housing and exit strategies for the remainder on June 14.
These applications are for a one-year duration, expiring on December 15, 2025, if approved.
The applications have been accepted, and independent commissioners will be appointed. The commissioner chair will be the same as before, with the rest of the panel to be determined.
Similar to previous applications, an independent consultant will write the council’s report. The same consultant is handling it this time.
The applications will undergo public notification after the council determines if more information is needed.
A hearing for the consents is likely to take place in November 2024.
Since the consent applications may require further information and are not yet finalised, releasing the applications now would be premature.
