Radio NZ Checkpoint requested an interview with Mayor Tapsell regarding community safety initiatives in CBD and recently released police data showing a reduction in crime in the CBD. The interview was live, late afternoon.

Key points covered included:

• RLC funding Hub as community safety is a priority but we’ve reached out to government for support
• CCTV cameras are invaluable but is a risk we will lose access to NZTA cameras
• Reductions in crime and anti-social behaviours are positive and just the beginning
• We are taking collaborative approach to community safety, RLC working alongside Police, Māori Wardens, contracted security and City Safe Guardians
