Topic: Death at Sulphur Point
Enquiry
I'm doing a story on the homeless chap who died at the weekend at Sulphur Point. We are told he died in a hotpool or a pool in the area.
His death isn't considered suspicious and it's been referred to the coroner.
Can the council please answer the following?
- Has the council been made aware of the death?
- Has the council put up any extra fencing or tighter security around any of the pools in the Hatupatu Dr/Sulphur Point areas?
Response
We provided the following information:
Re is council aware of the death: yes
Re fencing/security:Part of recent work completed in this area, which has included new walkways and bridges, has also included additional and replacement fencing, including in the area where the death occurred. The pathway running past this area is fenced on both sides and there is signage warning people to stay to the path and off geothermal hazards throughout the area.

Enquiry
just wanted to check in to see if any issues with the weather this morning or if anything expected? How is the council preparing for this etc?
Has there been any flooding reported and if so where?
Response
We provided the following information:
our Customer Centre received three calls for surface flooding due to blocked grates. Our contractor has dealt with those and is doing their normal checks around the city.
We’ll let you know if anything else comes up.
