Inquiry
Readers have contacted us to say that a reason that the Silver Oaks Resort Heritage sometimes falls below peoples' expectations is that WINZ redirects homeless people there. I wondered if the council knows if that is indeed the case and, if so, how motels to house the homeless are selected?
Also, how did the motel's recent inspection go?
Response
Council's Compliance Manager, Neven Hill:
We are satisfied with the motel owner's progress on implementing maintenance and cleaning so far as part of an upgrade of the accommodation facilities following council's recent inspection. We encourage media to seek comment from Silver Oaks Resort Heritage. We are unaware of accommodation being arranged by Work and Income for people and suggest these questions be directed to the government agency.
