Topic: Security guard at O&M meeting
Enquiry
The following questions were asked in regards to the Operations & Monitoring committee meeting held on Thursday 1 February:
Who made the call to have a security guard present at the meeting?
Secondly, can you tell me something about why a security guard was deemed necessary?
Response
From Acting Chief Executive Jean-Paul Gaston:
Having Council's City Guardians present if we are expecting potentially large crowds helps us to manage that.
It is precautionary only and is a call the CE makes from time to time as part of the CE's responsibility for not only ensuring the continuity of council business, but also the safety of staff, elected members and members of the public in the Civic Centre.

Enquiry
Questions regarding items in Thursday 1 February Operations & Monitoring committee meeting agenda:
1) Asbestos at the I-Site. Could you please tell me when asbestos was identified at the I-Site, how much of it was discovered and where in the building, how much it will cost to remove it, and how long that work is expected to take?
2) I see the agenda mentions a master plan for whakarewarewa. Is it possible to get a copy of the plan?
3) Is there a date set for the Hemo intersection opening?
Response
The following information was provided regarding iSite:
- The iSite, which was once Rotorua's post office, has been earthquake strengthened and refurbished.
- The project is in its final stages with just some finishing touches being completed.
- Asbestos was detected in lino flooring, under-floor pipes, under-floor insulation and walls.
- Asbestos-related costs totalled $158,000. This includes testing and sampling, removal works, remedial works following removal and contractual costs due to the site needing to be shut down for three months to deal with asbestos removal.
