Enquiry
I am working on a story regarding Summer jobs as I know our region gets busier as the sun gets warmer.
The crux of it is just checking in with different retailers and finding out what they are wanting from their summer employees, but I wanted to come to you in hopes of finding some numbers that support the story.
Would you be able to send through your response to the questions below by 2pm? Let me know if you need anything else from me :)
- Does council offer any summer jobs?
- If so, why do you believe it is important to offer these roles?
- If not, why do you believe it is important for retailers to offer summer job?
I am wondering if you have any data that suggests the increase of people over the summer period? If so would you be able to pass it on so we can paint the picture of how busy the city will get in the coming months?
Response
From Manager Organisation Development and Capability, Richard Bird:
Rotorua Lakes Council does employ a number of students over the summer. As well as undertaking valuable work for our community and enabling the students to earn income to support them in their studies, summer employment exposes young people to future careers in local government and provides valuable work experience to assist them in their careers.
Rotorua Economic Development was approached re data for increase in visitors over the summer period.
