Inquiry
Hennessy's owner has been suggesting people park their campervans/motorhomes in the carpark out the back of his pub. he says he's had dozens of requests and was disappointed the council had not put on extra facilities to accomodate an event of this size and calibre. He admits he hadn't asked council about it.
Will you guys be monitoring this carpark and asking campervans/motorhomes to move on? Do you have a response to Reg's comments?
Response
Here is the response from Major Events Coordinator Martin Croft -
Council has been working with various accommodation providers and business in Rotorua and we are confident that the community has the facilities in place to cater for the many visitors expected to arrive over the weekend.
Council has made the decision not to provide extra overnight campervan parking and will be encouraging visitors use the holiday parks and camping areas that are available around the district.
There are more than 1000 powered and non-powered sites available in holiday parks alone. A map to help visitors locate appropriate camper accommodation has been created and is available from the Rotorua i-site.
With the influx of people into the city residents are reminded that travel times may be longer and to be patient and plan trips with that in mind.
A number of events in town over the next few days will be make for a fun atmosphere around town but will also mean facilities will be extra busy.
