Topic: Rugby league tournament parking at reserve by Puketawhero Park
Enquiry
We have received a call this morning about the parking situation at Puketawhero Park.
According to a member of the public, areas around the park have been torn up by the cars of rugby league spectators.
We would appreciate it if you could respond to these questions before midday today:
- Has the council received any complaints about damage caused by cars in and/or around Puketawhero Park over the weekend?
- We are aware there was a rugby league event at the park over the weekend, could you let us know what traffic management measures were in place?
- What areas were spectators allowed to use for parking in and around the park?
- If the council has received complaints about damages, what are the plans for repairs?
- How much would the repairs cost? How long will the repairs take?
Response
From Rob Pitkethley - Sport, Recreation and Environment Manager:
Council has received one call from a resident about the damage caused by cars around Puketāwhero Park over the weekend.
There was designated parking at the sportsfield carparks and in surrounding streets.
The sports fields are currently being assessed for damage and what repairs are needed. Given the heavy rain over the weekend, the fields are closed to allow water to drain before any repairs can be carried out.
We will not know about costs until a full assessment has been made.
