Topic: Government's infrastructure/housing acceleration fund
Enquiry
I am working on a story about the Government's Infrastructure Acceleration Fund and was keen to hear what RLC is planning.
- Will RLC be putting an application in? What will it include and where?
- How much money is RLC applying for?
- Why is it critical for RLC application to be accepted?
- What would it mean for the city and the people of Rotorua?
Response
From Deputy Chief Executive District Development Jean-Paul Gaston:
Council has been assessing projects and initiatives that could be potential candidates for funding support from the Government’s housing acceleration fund in anticipation of criteria and deadlines being released.
We anticipate we will be applying for funds but have yet to finalise the projects or initiatives we will submit.
Given Rotorua’s dire need for more housing and the work we are already doing in collaboration with Central Government agencies to address the district’s housing crisis, it would be our hope that Rotorua would be able to benefit from this fund.
A number of residential development areas may meet funding criteria and staff have been confirming current timelines and infrastructure barriers with developers in advance of the application process.
