Topic: Labour announcement regarding forestry
Inquiry
Rotorua Review sent through a request for comment from Steve re the Labour announcement for a Rotorua forestry service
Firstly I wanted to ask - I presume Steve backs this move?
Does she envision this service, if established, contributing both jobs and money to the Rotorua economy?
If Labour don't form the next Government, would Steve consider lobbying whoever does to keep this plan?
Response
From Mayor Steve Chadwick:
My priority is to work with anyone who wants to work on behalf of Rotorua. Having a national forestry service based in Rotorua would be a good fit with our district. Plantation forestry was founded here and forestry remains one of our district's largest employers and these were drivers for the Wood First policy and action plan Council adopted in 2015, aimed at encouraging the use of wood products and supporting our vital wood industry. Central government will always be a crucial relationship for us to help keep our district moving forward.

Topic: Parking partnership
Inquiry
Just have a couple of follow up questions re parking:
With tenders now closed, can you confirm how many responses you've received?
When was the last time the parking equipment was modernised?
If the partnership goes ahead, will the new partner have the power to change prices?
Response
From Group Manager Infrastructure, Stavros Michael
Six proposals were received to provide parking services in Rotorua. These are now being evaluated and a report and recommendations will go to Council for its consideration.
It's too early in the process to talk about what the details of any contract might be.
Parking equipment was last updated in 2012/13 when parking sensors were installed in more than 1500 parks in the central city. In total there are more than 3570 parks in the central city.
