Topic: Importance of Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre
Enquiry
Note: this enquiry is a follow-up from yesterday's enquiry about building consents issued in 2020 (see initial enquiry HERE)
Reporter asked: Since the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre was the biggest consent, may I please have a quick comment from the council/mayor Chadwick regarding the consent and how important the centre is and will be for the city?
Response
From Councillor Mercia Yates who is the elected members' arts and culture representative:
The Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre redevelopment will be of huge benefit to our community.
We are creating a quality, fit-for-purpose, destination venue that will support our local performing arts sector and will bring economic benefits by attracting regional and national shows and audiences. The ability to attract good shows will also have benefits from a tourism perspective and will provide social and cultural benefits for our community.
