Topic: Waitangi Day events
Enquiry
- Why is it great to see a number of events being held for the community on Waitangi Day?
- Why do you encourage the community to/what is the importance of coming together and collectively commemorating Waitangi Day?
- Is there anything you would like to add?
Response
From Rotorua Mayor, Steve Chadwick:
"This year Rotorua is lucky to have two wonderful community-led events to attend on Waitangi Day - the For The Love Of The People festival which is supported by Council, and Opera in the Pā. These events will be uniquely Rotorua and provide an opportunity for people to come together to celebrate and reflect.
"Having just emerged from a year when events weren't always possible, we are extremely fortunate to be able to join together on this important day.
"It's important we don't take the freedom we currently have in New Zealand for granted. We need to remain vigilant - use the COVID-19 app to sign in to places, practice good hygiene and stay home if we are unwell - so that we can continue to enjoy these fantastic events throughout the year." ________________________________________________________________________________________

Topic: Aquatic Centre upgrade
Enquiry
Just checking in to see if you've done an update recently on the Aquatic Centre upgrade. Just wondering if there's any time frames for when the outdoor pool will be finished and the indoor pool will be closed etc.
Response
We posted this update last week (28 January) with an indicative opening for the outside pool of mid-February - https://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/our-council/news/Pages/default.aspx?newsItem=8952 although it's dependent on good weather.
As to the rest of the centre, planning and design work is underway but no confirmed closure dates at this stage.
