Enquiry
I'm an editor at Outside magazine in the U.S., and we're mentioning Rotorua's new Tarawera Road forest hub in our summer issue. I'm verifying our writer's text and had a few questions I hope you can help me with at your soonest convenience:
- When did this open?
- Is it on the northeast side of town?
- What facilities are available for mountain bikers?
- Can you camp there? If so, how much does that cost per night?
Response
The following information was provided:
When did this open?
15 October 2020 - you can read the media release from the opening day here - https://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/our-council/news/Pages/default.aspx?newsItem=8807
Is it on the northeast side of town?
It's location on Tarawera Road (southeast side of town)
What facilities are available for mountain bikers?
There are two commercial operators on site - one for beverages and snacks and one for mountain bike hire and other mountain bike related retail. There is also ablution facilities including paid showers.
Can you camp there? If so, how much does that cost per night?
No, this is not an overnight parking/camping area. However, there are three campgrounds about 2 - 5 minutes down the road at Lake Ōkareka and Lake Tikitapu.
