Topic: Swarm of quakes and damage checks
Enquiry
Just looking for some info about what actions council is taking after this morning's earthquakes (https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/series-of-earthquakes-strike-near-rotorua/QVTCQMUDUNJ26XFNIR3YLKXWFU/)
- Will the Rotorua Museum and Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre be checked for damage today?
- Are there any other council buildings that take priority in this sort of situation?
- If buildings are being checked, what do these checks involve?
If the earthquakes did cause any damage, what is the next step?
Response
The following information was provided:
We have not received any reports of damage to buildings (council buildings or privately owned buildings).
There is also no known or reported material damage to infrastructure, or disruptions to core services, but staff will be running checks and investigating anything that needs closer inspection.
We are currently working with engineers to assess the Rotorua Museum and Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre.
