Subject: TRIM: Request for information - CCTV in RLC area
I refer to your email of 5 April 2018 requesting various information on CCTV cameras in the Rotorua area, and reply as follows:
Under what policies/bylaws are the cameras being installed?
The Council owned and operated CCTV cameras are covered by the Rotorua Lakes Council's Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Management Policy (attached).
Who has access to the cameras as a live feed and as stored data?
What data fields are being monitored, stored and for how long and by whom?
This information is covered within the attached policy.
What are the government organisations, RLC organisations, or private individuals/groups authorised by RLC to use CCTV within the RLC area and their camera locations?
Attached is an up-to-date map of the location of the Council owned and controlled CCTV cameras, along with the location of NZTA cameras. Private property owners do not need permission from Council to install CCTV cameras on privately owned buildings/property. As such Council is not aware of the location of these cameras.
