Subject: TRIM: LGOIMA re: parking ticket challenges
I refer to your email of 6 April 2017 requesting information on the number/type of challenges to parking tickets and the income from parking tickets.
Below is the requested information as per your email:
- The number of challenges to on and off-street parking tickets in the last two years, broken down by year.All incoming correspondence regarding parking/parking meters is captured in one place. This includes challenges to parking tickets, notification of parking meter maintenance etc. Council is unable to separate this information and for this reason cannot provide the number of challenges received.
- The number of those challenges that were accepted/successful.2015793 successful challenges2016778 successful challenges
- What are the most common reasons for challenges and/or successful challenges?The most common reason is challenging the time period. If a customer can prove they were not in the bay for the length of time ticketed, council will waive the ticket.
- What was the income from parking tickets in that period, broken down by year?2015 - $278,8862016 - $272,455
