Subject: TRIM: Official information request - city expansion
I refer to your email of 28 April 2017 requesting maps or plans which show the expansion of the city in the last 12 years.
There are two links below which may help provide the information you're looking for.
The first link gives you aerial images of Rotorua in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016.
- Click on the following link: http://geodev.rdc.govt.nz/HTML5_EXT/Index.html?viewer=Aerial_Viewer
- Click on layers (bottom left corner) then click on the drop down menu in the top left corner of the screen.
This lets you compare the aerial images for the years in question.
The second link shows the District Plan Zones in 2006 compared to 2016.
- Click on this link: http://geodev.rdc.govt.nz/HTML5_EXT/Index.html?viewer=GeyserView
- Click on layers (bottom left corner) then switch from 'Parcel focus' top left corner to 'District Plan Focus'.
- Click on the + next to District Plan Zones.
You'll then be able to compare the extent of the Residential Areas and Rural Areas under the previous and current District Plans.
It may be worth contacting the relevant Government department to determine how and when reviews of the rural and urban boundaries occur in relation to the accommodation supplement. Statistics NZ may also be able to provide population information by area (from Census data) which may be useful.
We are obliged to advise that you may contact the Ombudsman at the address below if you have any concerns with the response provided by Council, by writing to:
