Now that the Dog Control Bylaw and Dog Policy changes are in effect I’m interested in doing another story about the DNA collection and bank. Could I come down next Wednesday and spend some time with Mihi, or other appropriate staff, and get them to show me through the process? They don’t actually have to take the DNA but I’d like to understand the process from ‘dog coming in’ to ‘DNA being matched.’

I’m also interested in some numbers - how many dogs to you get impounded each week? and how many dog attacks?

The reporter was informed an interview would not be possible next week due to other priority projects but that it may be possible at a future date.

Regarding the request for impound and dog attack numbers, we informed the reporter we are finalising our annual s10A report and will provide this once it's ready.
