Topic: Sunset Road dog attack
Enquiry
I have spoken with the victim of the dog attack on Sunset Rd in Rotorua last Tuesday.
She has described the attack and advised she was told by Animal Control the three dogs have been "destroyed".
Can the council confirm the three dogs have been destroyed?
Is the council still investigating this attack or has concluded?
If so, what are the findings of the investigation?
How many dog-related incidents/attacks have been reported to the council at this property?
Have the owners been charged/any arrests been made?
Were the dogs registered?
Response
From Council Spokesperson:
Re the status of the dogs:
We can confirm that all three dogs involved have been euthanised with the full co-operation of the owner.
Re the investigation:
An active investigation is underway. The dogs’ owner has been made aware, and the findings will be presented as part of any proceedings through court.
Re incidents at the property:
Council is aware of one earlier report in May 2024.
The reporter was informed that as this is an active investigation we are unable to add any additional information than what has been supplied up to this point.
Re Were the dogs registered?
The dogs were registered for the 2023/2024 registration year but registration had not been completed for the 2024/2025 year (due date being 30 June 2024).
