Topic: Pukuatua Street drop-in centre
Inquiry
The reporter sought comment about the Pukuatua St Drop in Centre as I have received a barrage of emails in relation to what is happening there.
The messages have been mixed with some happy about the work happening there, but also a lot of business owners in the area who feel like the people loitering outside have been intimidating, spitting, urinating in the street and are becoming a real issue.
- Have you received complaints about the Pukuatua St Drop in Centre?
- What are the nature of the complaints you have received?
- Does the council have any plans to intervene?
Response
Please note - the drop in centre on Pukuatua St is a day-time centre. The night time drop-in centre is in Eruera St.
Please attribute the following statement to Rotorua Lakes Council Kaiwhakahaere Māori (Group Manager Māori), Gina Rangi:
We've been made aware of several concerns about loitering and anti-social behaviour along Pukuatua Street and we are currently following these up with local businesses. We have also sought advice from the police. We are concerned by the reports and will be working with multiple groups to ensure the city is as safe as possible for everyone.
