Topic: Bike share scheme
Inquiry
I have just spoken with Min-Kyu Jung from Onzo Bikes and he said they are hoping to do a 200 bike trial for three months at the end of this year but they are waiting for confirmation from the Rotorua Lakes Council to go ahead with it.
Could I please get some more information about the proposals and what council needs to do before they can happen?
Response
In response to your query our licensing team have advised that they are still working through the licensing process with the vendor and once we have finalised the licence we will be able to provide information.

Topic: New speed signs in Reporoa
Inquiry
I am doing a story on the new 50km/h speed signs in Reporoa. I have spoken to Shirley Trumper and a resident about them but hoped to get some comment from the council staff who helped in the process.
I was hoping to ask the:
- For the date of the speed camera trial in Reporoa that found that drivers were going an average of 23km/h too fast.
- How many cars were clocked in that day.
- When the new signs have been rolled out this month.
- For any comment about the size of the speeding problem witnessed and the solution proposed with improved signage.
Response
Response from Infrastructure General Manager Stavros Michael.
The issue of motorists speeding in Reporoa was brought to Council by the Rotorua Rural Community Board on behalf of concerned residents in the area.
Council used a speed trailer to monitor the speeds of motorists on Settlers Road and Broadlands Road and recorded the following speeds:
Road | Vehicle count | Top speed | Average speed |
---|---|---|---|
Settlers Road | 1028 | 81kmh | 63.3kmh |
Broadlands Road | 1061 | 76kmh | 69kmh |
Four new speed signs have been ordered and will be installed at either end of Reporoa village.
The new speed signs are significantly bigger than the standard round signs and will be more obvious to motorists.
*info only - the signs haven't been completed and delivered yet so we don't have the final cost.
