Enquiry
We were asked asked if Council civil defence staff would be helping police with checkpoints during the coming Easter weekend.
It was explained the enquiry was based on information in separate news items regarding Civil Defence in the Coromandel helping Police with checkpoints. The checkpoints are expected to busier than they have been as people from outside the area trying to get into holiday homes etc for Easter. The Civil Defence for the area said they were already helping police in this task.'
So:
Has our local Civil Defence been assisting police in this task?
And, given that Rotorua has a larger number of residences owned by "out-of-towners", is Civil Defence going to assist police here to check that visitors aren't coming into the area, particularly around the lakes.
Response
The following information was provided:
At this stage our Emergency Operations Centre has not received a request to assist police at checkpoints during the Easter weekend. We would be available to assist if requested.
You'll need to check with police regarding what plans they have in place re checkpoints and checking for visitors.
