Topic: Sale of sections at Baxendale
Enquiry
I am looking for a comment from Mayor Steve Chadwick about the Baxendale subdivision sales. The last 30 blocks went up for auction on Tuesday with 19 of them selling under the hammer.
Do you believe housing subdivisions like this selling is a good sign for the city? Do you think it is good for the current housing crisis?
Subsequent from reporter after being informed Mayor was in meetings all day today and being provided with previous comment regarding sale of Baxendale section (See HERE):
I was hoping to possibly get a renewed comment (likely quite similar) relating directly to the fact that 19 were sold under the hammer and 11 were either under negotiations or still available. Maybe highlighting how popular Rotorua property is at the moment.
Response
Thank you for the opportunity but the mayor doesn't have anything new or different to say regarding the sale of Baxendale sections. Please feel free to refer back to her previous response about this [see below].
Regarding how popular Rotorua property is at the moment - that is a question for real estate experts who will be able to articulate if that is the case and the extent of it.
Previous comment provided by Rotorua Mayor Steve Chadwick:
We have a critical housing shortage in Rotorua and we need all types of homes. Opening up of sections like those at Baxendale will, once homes are built, free up others down the chain, so these types of developments are welcome and play a role in ensuring we have enough homes across the housing spectrum.
