Enquiry
- I was wondering how many complaints the council received about drones in 2017.
- How many fines/ infringement notices/ warnings were issued in 2017?
Response
The following information was provided:
Council is not the enforcement agency regarding use of drones. The Civil Aviation Authority are the best ones to speak to regarding complaints and enforcement.
Council gives permission to use drones over council-owned/public areas and people need to comply with Civil Aviation rules regarding use of drones. The reason we have info on our website regarding drones is just to let people know about permissions re use of drones over council-owned/managed public areas.
Basic info on Council's website: http://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/our-council/news/Pages/default.aspx?newsItem=6732
You'll also find info re drones here: https://www.airshare.co.nz/
Re complaints about use of drones - the only ones we would deal with are those regarding something that is happening at that time in a council-owned/managed public area where drones are not permitted but we have not had that happen to date.
[Can] confirm we have received no noise complaints re drones.
So other than the above, any complaints regarding use of drones are referred to either the police or CAA and council does not record these referrals. CAA or police might be able to help you re any complaints they have dealt with.
