Topic: Royal visit
Enquiry
I am working on a story for the upcoming royal visit around how tight the security will be.
- What security will be in place on the day of the visit?
- Will there be a no-fly zone over the city in relation to drones?
- Which roads in the city will be closed and for how long?
- Will any parts of the city be closed?
- Will any of the venues be closed during the day, such as the forest and areas of Ohinemutu?
Response
Please see a response to your questions below. Please note this is provided as information rather than quotes.
Police are in charge of security for the Royal visit, however Council will be providing some assistance with crowd management.
Council have imposed some road closures around this and information of those can be found at THIS LINK.
There will be a no-fly zone in place over the city, including Government Gardens, the Redwoods and Ohinemutu. This is for drones and other aircraft, except scheduled flights, commercial operators and the rescue helicopter.
Council is not closing any parts of the city (other than road closures). There may be limited access to some areas and police may be able to provide more information around this.
The place for the public to see the Royals is Government Gardens. Access to the other venues the Royals are visiting is by invitation only.
