Topic: Hilton Road/Lynmore Ave tree felling
Enquiry
The reporter requested comment regarding a letter sent to Lynmore residents about the removal of a large tree on the corner of Hilton Road and Lynmore Avenue.
Response
Response from Sport & Recreation Manager Rob Pitkethley -
The large tree at the corner of Hilton and Lynmore roads was identified as needing work to remove dead branches, clear powerlines and reduce weight on the main trunk.
After further consideration it was decided to remove the tree all together on 26 February however following public concern the work was delayed until an independent Arborist could carry out further checks and provide expert advice for the best way to manage safety issues.
The Arborist supported the decision to remove the tree because of the problems identified earlier and also the fact that one main branch was going to cause increasing traffic issues as it leaned further over Hilton Road.
Work to remove the tree will take place on Monday 23 April (weather permitting) with Stop/Go traffic management as advised, however we encourage motorists and pedestrians to use an alternative route while work is taking place.

Topic: Otonga Road/Springfield Road roundabout upgrade
Enquiry
On March 27 Stavros said he expected the work to be finalised by Mid-April 'as planned.'
Today's release said the now expected May 2 completion date is 'a few days later than expected'?
Is it fair to describe just over two weeks as 'a few days'?
Secondly, should the contractor have been expected to have the required material to hand before taking on the contract?
Response
Response from Infrastructure General Manager Stavros Michael -
Council is continuing to work and making every effort to finish work as soon as possible. We expect the roundabout to be open and useable by Wednesday 2 May.
Clarification was also given regarding completion dates communicated:
Also for your information please note that we incorrectly quoted mid-April' as the scheduled completion date in our response to you on 27 March. It should have read end of April' as was advised to stakeholders and the wider public on 19 March - see news item HERE.
