Inquiry
TV1 sought comment and information from Council regarding Mudtopia festival and whether it was going to make a loss, if so how much of a loss and asking if that was a concern.
Response
From Rotorua Lakes Council Arts and Culture Director Stewart Brown:
The Council has made an investment in an event which is seen as having the potential to bring economic benefits.
This is a totally new concept in terms of events in New Zealand and we've focussed on putting on a great event and providing festival goers with a great experience. People can still buy tickets - there will be sales at the gate.
Ticket sales have been slower than expected but that's only one measure of success - this is also an opportunity to promote Rotorua as a visitor destination and bring economic benefits for tourism, accommodation and hospitality providers.
