Enquiry
Rotorua Daily Post sought comment from Mayor Chadwick on the Government's Budget announcements.
Response
From Rotorua Mayor Steve Chadwick
I will be rapt if Rotorua can get a share of what's being invested in more state housing - there is certainly a need for social housing solutions locally, Mayor Steve Chadwick says.
State housing is one necessary part of our need for more housing in Rotorua.
Rotorua is under immense pressure in terms of housing right now and while we're not alone in this, our situation has been exacerbated by the recent flooding which resulted in more than 90 homes being flooded and unable to be lived in for a period of time at least.
The subsidies for insulation also fits with the Rotorua 2030 goal of ensuring local residents have healthy homes that match needs, the mayor says.
Investment in infrastructure remains key for Rotorua and Council will continue to seek support for the business case for improvements to Te Ngae Road to cater for growth and ease current congestion, she says.
And we are already looking at getting a share of the Government's Provincial Growth Fund, which has already been announced, for key projects like our lakefront and forest developments which will improve these key assets that benefit both our community and our economy.
I'm also pleased to see the investments in social sectors like health and child poverty, more police and investment in more schools and classrooms which will contribute towards key social outcomes, Mayor Chadwick says.

Topic: Otonga Road reseal work
Enquiry
An Otonga road resident got in touch about pot holes forming in the newly sealed road outside her home where the roadworks where for the roundabout. I understand she hasn't got in touch with the council about it, which surprised me, but attached are some photos taken yesterday. Hoping to please hear back about what the cause may have been, how this can be remedied, and if residents can expect further holes to form elsewhere.
Response
The following information and quotes were provided:
Council is unaware of an issue with boy-racers at the intersection and it may be worth following up with the police
At this stage there are no planned diversions
From Rotorua Lakes Council's Infrastructure General Manager, Stavros Michael:
All roads, including those that are new, are prone to potholes and are caused by wet weather especially in the cooler months. In regards to Ōtonga Road, this is not a pothole issue rather an area where some of the chip seal has come away. Remedial work on this new road will need to be carried out by our contractor, which under our agreement with them is required to meet a completion deadline.
We encourage residents to get in touch with Council if they have identified a possible issue or hazard by contacting us on 348 4199 or via email: info@rotorualc.nz so we can respond as soon as possible.
