Topic: Talent attraction/jobs
Inquiry
Can I get some comment from someone in the economic development team at the council. The [Rotorua] Chamber of Commerce president John McRae said there is a significant shortage of workers across the board in Rotorua and [the Chamber] would be surveying its members to see what jobs they have, then working in conjunction with the economic development side of council and marketing these jobs and Rotorua itself
to other cities around NZ - he hoped it would launch before Xmas - are you involved with that - and what do you think of the idea?
-What is council's role in this campaign and why did it decide to get involved?
-How will the programme be rolled out - will it be in print advertising, social media, online etc?
-Will council put any funding against it and how much?
Response
Please see below to be attributed to Destination Rotorua CEO Michelle Templer:
Finding skilled and unskilled labour continues to be a priority for local businesses. Rotorua Economic Development Limited will continue to focus on talent attraction, positioning Rotorua as a place to live, work and learn. Going forward we will work collaboratively with a number stakeholders including the Chamber on talent attraction initiatives.
NOTE: The Chamber of Commerce initiative is not yet underway but the chamber has expressed a desire to work with Rotorua Economic Development Limited to help address the need for talent attraction to fill current and future job vacancies.
