Topic: Metered water submission
Inquiry
Inquiry in regards to Toi Ohomai professor proposing Rotorua residents have metered water as opposed to increasing rates across the board.
In his submission (which was in the last Strategy, Policy and Finance Committee meeting agenda) Dr Craig Morley said water would be metered for all new developments but argued this should be the case for all residents.
1. What was behind the decision to make new developments have metered water?
2. What would the process involve to make all properties metered?
3. How much would it cost?
4. Is this something council has or would consider doing?
Response
Council has not made any decisions regarding water metering.
It undertook a review of the Water Services and Trade Waste Bylaw 2010, which needs updating. This process is not yet complete

Submissions will be deliberated on by the Strategy, Policy and Finance Committee at its next meeting on the 8th of June.
Council has proposed one amendment to remove a clause that imposes water metering rates for new residential subdivisions in the Rotorua Urban Water Supply area because the clause has never been implemented.
