Topic: Special Licences for Joseph Parker fight on Easter Sunday
Enquiry
The following questions were asked:
We understand due to the day it falls outside of liquor licensing.
- How many premises have been given the right to show the fight?
- Which premises are these?
- What obligations do they have to meet to be open?
Response
The following information was provided:
The Sale and Supply of Liquor Act requires gives councils the authority to issue special licences but the types of restrictions set are up to each individual council.
Previous events such as the rugby world cup are used as precedents for what types of restrictions are applied to a special licence. These can be restricted hours, a revolving door' policy or only being able to sell drinks in plastic cup and may be different for each venue depending on size or location.
Council has received two applications for a special licence for the Joseph Parker fight on Easter Sunday which are still being processed. They will need to go before the District Licencing Committee to be approved or declined after which specific restrictions for each will be applied.
